Our Founder's Story
Welcome to The Diabetes Care Network (TDCN). My name is Margaret Wonah, a pharmacist, author, and the visionary behind TDCN. Our mission is to leverage digital technology to close the knowledge gap in type 2 diabetes management, a passion that emerged from a personal experience.
It all began when I returned home from my internship at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital and found my mother in a distressing state. She had lost significant weight, was frequently urinating, and felt extremely fatigued. Alarmed, I rushed her to the nearest pharmacy, where her sugar level was found to be dangerously high—over 20mmol/L. It was a turning point for me. I realized that many families lacked basic knowledge about diabetes management, and I vowed to become an agent of change.
The Diabetes Care Network is a reflection of my commitment to transforming the lives of diabetics and their caregivers—helping them move from a place of panic and confusion to one of confidence and clarity in managing diabetes.
I am a proud native of Yala, Cross River State, Nigeria, and a 2024 Mandela Washington Fellow in the Leadership in Civic Engagement track at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I was also honored to be one of three Nigerians selected for a Professional Development Experience in the U.S., further enhancing my commitment to public health. I have spoken at international platforms, including the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) and the Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) workshop at the University of Bristol.
Passionate about the intersection of health and technology, I mentor young professionals on how to use their online presence to create meaningful impact and profitability.
